§ Reading the Bible in a Year
Reading List | Bible Studies | Daily Devotions
Many of us have thought, “I should really read the Bible from cover to cover.” But most of us who try eventually find the task daunting, particularly when—having enjoyed the narratives of Genesis and Exodus—we arrive in chapter upon chapter of Levitical laws that seem to have little to do with our faith today.
Why not make 2012 the year you make it all the way through to the last chapter?
We invite you to join the Fourth Church community as together we embark on the journey of reading the entire Bible in a year.
The reading list consists of manageable portions for each day, generally two chapters from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament for each day.
Two identical weekly Bible studies, led by members of the pastoral staff and offered on Tuesday evenings and Thursday mornings, will provide opportunity to discuss and dig deeper into the texts for the week. The translation used for these studies will be the new Common English Bible, copies of which will be available for sale at the Book Nook during Coffee Hour.
Daily devotions throughout the year will also be focused on the readings assigned for each day.
If you have questions about the readings, we invite you to send them to the pastoral staff via the email address bibleyear@fourthchurch.org. Answers to questions are posted online so we all can benefit from the responses.
We hope you’ll join us in making this the year that together we make it through the Bible, from beginning to end!
