Retreats

Twice a year, Fourth Presbyterian Church offers opportunity to participate in a contemplative retreat, joining fellow members and friends of Fourth as we engage in a variety of spiritual practices that open our hearts and minds to God's love.

For more information on retreat opportunities, contact Victy Curtiss, Associate Pastor for Mission (312.981.3598).

A Lenten Contemplative Retreat

“Deep Calls to Deep”

at The Well (1515 W. Ogden Ave., La Grange Park, Illinois)

Experience a sacred time . . .
Refresh and renew your spiritual connection with God using spiritual practices of the church. Join in worship, guided meditation, journaling, praying with images and psalms, or simply enjoy nature and solitude.

Embark on a sacred journey . . .
Join members and friends of Fourth Presbyterian Church as we journey into silence, reflecting on Christ’s death and the hope of resurrection. We begin with a shared meal and time of preparation. Following our evening worship service, we enter into the stillness and profound mystery that is the steadfast love of God. The evening and following day provide opportunity to explore different spiritual practices while enjoying the beauty and hospitality of The Well. We close the retreat breaking our silence and reflecting together on our shared experience.

   Saturday, January 3
   9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

   at Pilgrim Congregational Church
(460 Lake Street, Oak Park, Illinois)

Attend a day of recollection and renewal at this one-day spiritual retreat co-sponsored by Fourth Presbyterian Church and First United Church of Oak Park. Incorporating worship, silent reflection, guided meditation, collage-creating, and journaling, participants will focus on such questions as

  • What was your greatest joy in the past year? What was your greatest sorrow?
  • In what area did you grow? What are your regrets? What did you learn? What do you want to let go?
  • How do you want to create the new year? Is there a special inward work you would like to accomplish? A special outward work?
  • With whom would you like to deepen your relationships in the next year? Are there relationships in need of healing?
  • What kind of commitment do you want to make to yourself? to your family? to your community? to God?

Please register with Nancy Davis at 312.274.3815 (ndavis@fourthchurch.org) by Sunday, December 28. Participants are asked to bring a $10 registration fee and a brown-bag lunch. Drinks, fruit, snacks, and art supplies will be provided.
