Upcoming Readings in the 2011–2012 Season
Anne Boleyn
This “At a Glance” spring presentation is beingn revived for the Fourth Dimension gathering on Friday, November 11. Because about six of the original cast will not be available, we will recast those roles. The play’s cutting emphasizes Anne’s religious relationship with Henry VIII, his court, William Tyndale, and Martin Luther. It also has a connection with King James I, who commissioned the King James Bible 400 years ago.
The Busy World Is Hushed
This play will be presented as a whole during the winter. Its three characters are a female Anglican minister; her son, a carpenter; and a man who is editing her book. The title comes from a favorite prayer in the Church of England.
Esther: The Jewish Queen of Persia
This reading will need four men and one woman. King Ahaseurus’s invitation to an important banquet was refused by beautiful Queen Vashti, so the king banished her and chooses a new queen. Queen Esther was called upon to reveal her religious heritage and save her people from annihilation.
Tobit: The Rewards of Faithfulness
This story in the Apocrypha tells of of Tobit’s family representing the Jews in exile in Nineveh and how they are admonished to remain faithful to the Torah so that they may see God’s plan worked out in history. This reading will need eight people: five men and three women.
