GRANT WRITER, Part-Time
Fourth Presbyterian Church, a vibrant, urban, 5,800-member congregation with approximately 180 employees and multiple operating entities, is in need of a part-time Grant Writer.
This part-time position is responsible for the development and management of grants, from foundations and corporations, for the seven programs under the umbrella of Chicago Lights, a community outreach organization of Fourth Presbyterian Church. Responsibilities include prospect research; grant development, writing, and production; and grant management, tracking, and reporting. The Grant Writer will work with the Program Directors, the Associate Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations, and the Director of Resource Development and Communications to meet the financial goals of the organization and to foster positive relationships with the funding community.
Chicago Lights is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that brings together, under one banner, programs that strengthen individuals, families, and neighboring communities.
Responsibilities
• Provide guidance, planning, strategy, and implementation for the organization’s foundation and corporate grants program
• Conduct prospect research to ensure that the pipeline for new grants is continuously replenished with appropriate prospects
• Become familiar with Chicago Lights programs through discussion, observation, and participation in selected events
• Conduct preproposal strategy meetings for grants with Program Directors and Associate Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations
• Write and produce proposals to foundations and corporations
• Acknowledge gifts in a timely manner
• Assist Program Directors with the administration of grants, including the timely and accurate submission of reports to funders
• Participate in monthly Chicago Lights Development Team and Quarterly Staff Meetings
• Participate in Board meetings and Fund-raising Committee meetings upon request
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• BA degree or equivalent in English, Communications, or Business.
• Two years experience in writing and administering grants
• Exceptional writing capabilities with regard to technical skills, speed, and compositional clarity.
• Excellent project and management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities
• Excellent organizational skills, including accuracy and attention to detail
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Sensitivity to representing programs with multicultural and multigenerational components
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
