Annual Lenten Retreat
Julian’s Window:
A Time for Listening in Lent
led by Linda Loving
Saturday, February 9, 2007
Julian of Norwich was a medieval mystic who knew well the profound power of listening . . .
listening for God, listening to one another, listening to one’s own deepest spirit.
In our whirling, cacophonous culture we have neglected the art of listening. Each one of us has a deep need to be heard and understood. Julian understood these longings, and we will lean into her wisdom and teachings in a retreat day intended for reflection and renewal.
Linda C. Loving knows Julian well, having performed J. Janda’s one woman drama of Julian’s life in over seventy performances around the country and in England. The first production was nineteen years ago at a Fourth Church Arts Festival during Linda’s nine year tenure as an associate pastor at Fourth. Recently she filmed the production in Julian’s actual cell in Norwich, England.
Julian’s writings from “Revelations of Divine Love” will serve as a springboard for meditation, for conversation, for journal writing, and for discernment. Lent is a time for listening, and this retreat will allow the space and grace for holy hearing.
Bring a journal, an open mind, and a hungry heart.
