The Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago takes the complexity of marriage seriously, and we are committed to supporting couples as they work to create a fulfilling, lifelong bond together.

Six times a year, we present the Premarital Saturday Seminar, in which couples learn and practice some of the most important skills necessary to building a healthy marital relationship that will endure and grow.

The purpose of the seminar is to determine where you are in your development as a couple, build on your skills in various areas, and have the chance to talk with other couples preparing to be married at Fourth Church and elsewhere. The important areas that will be highlighted include

Marriage Expectations Personality Issues
Communication Conflict Resolution
Financial Management Family and Friends
Sexual Relationship Leisure Activities
Role Responsibility Spiritual Beliefs
Children Parenting

Scheduling Arrangements

The seminar is built around thirty years of data provided by the Prepare/Enrich Inventory developed at the University of Minnesota by Dr. David Olson. In order to have your "Couples Report" and "Building a Strong Marriage Workbook" available on the day of the seminar, the inventory must be filled out at least two months prior to the seminar you are scheduled to attend.

Space in these seminars is limited, so sign up early. Reservations and arrangements to fill out the "Prepare Inventory" may be made by calling the Lorene Replogle Counseling Center at 312.787.8425.

Inventories are administered at the Center, which is located at 112 E. Chestnut, next to the church.

The divorce rate in the United States is high, but current research indicates that couples
who receive premarital education are more successful in long-term marriages.

The poet Rainer Maria Rilke wrote, "For one human being to love another is perhaps
the most difficult task of all."

We can make that task easier.
The Premarital Saturday Seminar team looks forward to meeting you and
being part of your journey as you prepare for your forthcoming marriage.
