Project Light is a faithful and strategic plan for Fourth Presbyterian
Church to proclaim God's word and ensure the future of our congregation
and our outreach efforts in the community at large. Demographic
studies of both the congregation and the larger community served
by Fourth Church clearly show the need for increased space, additional
programming and room for congregational care and fellowship. Project
Light affirms our commitment to the city and our growing faith community.
The following slides excerpted from
Deborah Kapp’s Faith in Action series presentation entitled
“Who is My Neighbor in the Pew” highlight growth and
demographics of Fourth Presbyterian Church's membership.

The extraordinary increase in Fourth Church
membership in recent years sets the stage for a continually dynamic,
young and growing congregation.

Far more than half of our current membership
joined Fourth Church following Pastor John M. Buchanan’s arrival
in 1985.

Fourth Church’s membership has grown
steadily for the last decade.

Fourth Church’s strength as a young
and vital congregation is represented by the tremendous increase
in baptisms in recent years.

In an age when many other mainstream Protestant
churches are seeing a decline in membership, Fourth Church’s
growth is evidenced by the wonderful increase in young families
and baptisms.
• 88 births since the first of the year
• On track for 141 infant baptisms in 2004 (103 to date and
38 more scheduled)
• 219 children, age 2 and younger, enrolled in the nursery
• 482 children, age 2 through fifth grade, enrolled in the
Sunday morning church school program
