Splendor of God’s Brightest Glory, leading forth with light
from light.
Day illuminating daylight; new beginnings of new light.
With the radiance of the spirit, fill us in our every sense.
O Light of light, O Day of days, Now shine on us your
brightest ray.
With our prayers we call upon thee, giver of unending grace.
Set aside our poor of offenses, fire our hearts to sing your praise.
Prosper us in times of sorrow grant the grace to bring us through.
O Light of light, O Day of days, Now shine on us your
brightest ray.
Guide and rule our understanding, spark a pure and
faithful heart;
Fervent faith and true devotion, far from pretense, set apart.
Sober drunkenness of spirit let us drown in deepest joy.
O Light of light, O Day of days, Now shine on us your
brightest ray.
Let this day be spent rejoicing, shame be as the dimmest dawn.
Let our faith break forth in radiance, darkness scattered,
swept, and gone.
Christ complete within the Father, Father set within the Word.
O Light of light, O Day of days, Now shine on us your
brightest ray.

Commissioned by Fourth Presbyterian Church and Project Light, “Splendor of God’s Brightest Glory” was written by Aaron David Miller, who served as Associate Organist at Fourth Church from 2000-2001. This bold majestic hymn was used for the first time on Sunday, September 28 when the Capital Campaign for Fourth Church was launched.
