Rooted in the heart of the city, we offer long-term, high-impact opportunities through our Tutoring, Summer Day, Urban Farm, and Social Service Center programs.
Position Summary
The Associate Director of Development plays a vital role in developing and executing the fundraising strategy for Chicago Lights. This position is responsible for individual giving, donor campaigns and stewardship, special events, and volunteer committee engagement. The role works closely with the Senior Director of Development and Executive Director, as well as church and program staff, to ensure continued philanthropic growth and effective donor relationships.
Schedule
This is a full-time position based on a 40-hour work week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work required for special events or deadlines. Hybrid work is supported, with a minimum of two days onsite per week. Remote workdays are negotiable with the supervisor based on responsibilities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy and Donor Engagement
- Implement annual fundraising plans in partnership with the Senior Director of Development and the Development team
- Manage donor campaigns (mail, email, and digital) to support acquisition, retention, and upgrades
- Serve as primary staff liaison to the Associates Board and Gala Committee
- Support cultivation and stewardship strategies across giving levels
- Provide regular updates and reports to leadership
- Collaborate with the Fourth Presbyterian Church Development team on shared donor initiatives
Special Events and Volunteer Leadership
- Lead the planning and execution of the annual Gala of Hope
- Partner with staff and volunteers to produce high-quality fundraising and stewardship events
- Support the Executive Director and Board in donor outreach and solicitation efforts
Collaboration and Communications
- Collaborate with program staff to gather impact stories and program updates
- Partner with the Manager of Communications to align messaging and campaign content
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- 3–5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, especially individual giving and event management
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed fundraising goals
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Experience with donor databases/CRMs (e.g., Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce)
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
Compensation
This is a full-time salaried position with an annual salary range of $60,000-$65,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
