The writer William Zinsser has called memoir “a window into a life.” Writing short memoir pieces about your experiences can give you a fresh perspective on your past and an opportunity to share the view with others.

This class will provide inspiration and motivation to improve your creative writing skills and capture your life stories. Writing prompts and examples will help spark your memory and get your writing going. Each meeting, you’ll share new writing with the group in an encouraging environment. Both beginning and experienced writers are welcome!

Linda Downing Miller leads creative writing classes at CLL, the Newberry Library, and elsewhere. Her stories and essays have appeared in literary journals and other publications, including Chicago Quarterly Review, Water~Stone Review, the Florida Review, and the Chicago Tribune. She earned an MFA in creative writing from Queens University of Charlotte and lives in Oak Park.
