CLL: Music History

Music History

Thursdays ( Zoom)
1:00–2:00 p.m.
Johanna Moffitt

Opera Lab is an exploration of opera through focused weekly case studies. Each session centers on a single subject—such as a composer, singer, vocal tradition, production, or landmark work—allowing students to examine how opera is created, performed, and experienced. The course invites curiosity, close listening, and conversation about what makes opera meaningful to audiences and artists.

American soprano, Johanna Moffitt, relocated from Western New York to Chicago where they have since been making a splash across the Chicago arts scene. As a producer, they have sought to bring accessible performances to non-traditional venues with 501(c)3 company /kor/ productions. As a stage director, Johanna has led several projects. As a teacher, they have worked with all ages both in the studio as a private voice instructor, and as a choir and music director. Johanna enjoys the challenge of creating community among their students, fostering a sense of togetherness and support at studio events and also leading their choirs to connect with music and each other through the joint effort of performance. In their spare time, Johanna very much enjoys performing as a storyteller, and hanging out with their adorable pups, George and Charlie.
