Today's Scripture
Proverbs 11:2

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but wisdom is with the humble.

I wrote in a devotion last year that God’s creation and love are infinitely more powerful and true than any man-made structure or human power that anyone will ever have. Psalm 33, which that devotion was based on, reminds us that our hope does not lie in human things, but in a God who extends love to all creation.

Pride is a human thing. We fall into the trap of believing that the world revolves around us. We work hard to be in control. We believe we don’t need help.

8.3 billion people live on Earth. 1.4 million Earths could fit inside the sun. The sun is one of about 100 billion stars in our galaxy.

And we think the world revolves around us?

We are humble when we realize we need God. We are wise when we let go and trust that God is at the center, not us.

Prayer

Holy God, help my unbelief. Forgive me when I think the world revolves around me. Thank you for your amazing love and the universe you created. Amen.
